The NBA Finals (Yawn)

I have not watched even 1 minute of one NBA game all season. I don't really care much for NBA basketball. I DO however listen to sports talk radio all day long at my job, which means that I keep up with just about every sport thats in season and worth mention in the sports media. Because of this, I happen to know more stats, and game times, and other sports info than I usually would. So last night I decided to check out the first game of the NBA Finals: The San Antionio Spurs vs. last year's NBA Finals winners, the Detroit Pistons. Needless to say I was extremely dissapointed. The game was so boring. I watched the entire first half and was "wowed" by maybe one or two made shots. I also saw what people meant about the NBA having very few talented mid-range shooters. It just stunk. The most interesting part of the whole thing was the mini-biography on Manu Ginoboli during halftime.

NBA blog, Yawn.
NBA boring? Not to my eyes. For years, sports radio people said the NBA had no defense. Now you’ve got the two best defensive teams in the NBA battling to the championship. They said the same thing about fundamentals; no fundamentals, just big dunks from big athletes. The current teams stars are some of the most fundamentally sound players in the world. They represent huge amounts of practice, patience and hard work.
Tim Duncan could be the very best power forward to ever play the game. He plays defense. Shoots a solid mid-range jumper, and doesn’t get picked up by the police every week for a mug shot.
Manu Ginobili represents all that is good in basketball. His team, not the US dream team, won the gold medal in the last Olympics. They did it with solid chemistry, great three point shooting and good team defense. He brings that same passion to the court every night. His off balance drives to thru the lane are some of the most artistic in the game. Go back and watch some NBA classic and check out Bob Cousey. Ginobili has that kind of game!
Rip Hamilton can score! If he doesn’t have a mid-range jumper, try challenging him to a game of pig. You’ve got no chance. The guy can score.
Should I continue about the on court ability… I could but won’t.
Off the court, Rasheed Wallace offers some of the best quotes since Charles Barkley. His Off the cuff, comments on refs and league play are priceless. Larry Brown is the most interesting coach still coaching. Talk about drama.
Albert, If you’d watch any other NBA games during the year you’d know that basketball is a game of tempo and runs. The great teams make their runs in the fourth quarter. You missed that by going to bed before the game really gets interesting. If you feel the need to complain; Complain about the start time. 9pm tip-off?!?!? Come on Mr. Stern, some of us have to get to bed at a decent hour.
Maybe, Albert, you will not have to write about how boring the NBA is next year if the labor issues aren’t resolved and the NBA goes the way of the NHL. That would be a travesty.
